Q: Is the game a sandbox or a linear story?
The game is geared more toward a true sandbox. Similar to Pixel Piracy and FTL each sector needs to be cleared in hopes of gaining more research in order to make your ship stronger. The game is meant to be explored and new events found and allow players to create their own ideas of how the world is and the ship.
Q: When does the game take place?
The game takes place shortly after the invention of faster than light travel or hyperspeed. Humans have just started to explore the stars however they have had horrible results. All attempts have been disastrous as initial meetings with other species have gone really bad. Also the pure unknown of space has driven many crazy on very long trips.
Q: When will the game release?
The true answer is when it is done and feels fun however the best guess is Q1 2016. The game is being worked on full time so an alpha and beta will be out shortly.
Q: Is there ship combat?
Yes, initially the game starts with a very simple weapon system. You have to unlock additional technology to learn about your targets via upgrading target systems. Your weapon systems will initially only consist of the flak cannon, unlocking additional research will give better weapons, and greatly increase your chance for survival.
Q: Will I be able to talk with Aliens immediately?
No. Initially, the game is set immediately when alien communications have not been discovered. Initial communications need to be researched. This will result in making things like repairs and assistance in space very difficult. Research is imperative and discovering how to use it is a key factor of the game.
Q: What does the risk-reward gameplay truly mean? Will I lose all of my progress in game?
When out in space the ship will be constantly exploring new sectors of space and finding additional research. When a sector is cleared, you have the choice to continue onto a new sector or return to the Ark. If you continue on additional research points earned will have a percentage modifier thus acquiring a greater amount of points. However, if the ship is destroyed you will lose all non-banked points and crew members. Since you are an AI there is a fail safe in place that if the AI is offline its "consciousness" returns to the Ark where you will be able to acquire a new ship for exploration.
Q: What is the Ark?
The Ark is the space station at which the AI's full processing power and research can be performed. It is a staging location for all interstellar missions and explorations. The Ark also holds all recruits and volunteers who wish to join the ship in its travels.
Q: Can I truly design my ship however I want?
The short answer is yes. Long answer, every ship requires a minimum set of equipment so you will have to place a cafeteria, a restroom, a command deck etc, and for the most part one of each item similar to how Theme Hospital required at least one of each item type in a specific room. However, once that is done you can customize all additional equipment to get the game experience you want. Perhaps you have a really good crew member with weapon skills but lack flight skills. Placing more flight sticks so that additional crew members can assist may be more advantageous and it is that form of gameplay that is encouraged.
Q: How much does it cost when building rooms out? What form of currency is used for this?
The construction of ships are not based around a currency system but instead on what you as the player has unlocked. The entire human race is backing this endeavor so you have been given an unlimited budget and your blueprints and design choices are what fuels future decisions for many years to come.
