As the banner states The Sentient has now been greenlit. Big thanks to all of the fans out there as it takes a lot to see a game through its flaws in Alpha and really see the true potential. The store page for steam won't be up for some time as we want to truly take the time to make something visually appealing and showcase the game at release.
Alpha V1.6 Changes
Alpha V1.6 is now up. The latest build focuses on performance issues and various aesthetics.
With the recent changes of added lighting additional UI elements and screen interactions the overall performance of the game took a tip primarily due to many ray casts being processed and rendering lights on objects with an altered alpha channel. This resulted in some performance dips and at times caused the game to drop below 30 frames of second. Being a 2D game the performance drop was only noticeable when the game is ran while in fast forward pace. However to help smooth out the game overall this has been corrected.
The game is back up around 60+ frames a second where it is currently capped.
Lighting effects have gotten another pass to ensure the visuals all sync more. The intention of the lights is to allow for more custom aesthetics instead of a forced option. This has been fixed and adjusted. All rooms now consist of additional objects that can be placed to help make the rooms feel a bit more alive. They also provide bonuses for activities performed in the room.
A great example of this can be seen in the gif below. The bar has been given a television which provides a fun bonus while performing activities in the room. Plastic plants have been given to all rooms to help make the ship feel more like home for crew morale and psychological needs. Additionally 3 type of wall lights have been added to the game to help make the ship your own if you so choose.
